About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

us passport transit arrival 18:40 on March 27 and i planning to stay at Beijing hotel for next fligh

I am US passport transit arrival 18:40 on March 27 and I planning to stay at Beijing hotel till next flight on next day on March 28 at 17:20 but the hotel is near by forbidden city, do I eligible to get 24 hours free transit or i should apply 72 hours free and what i should do to apply this?
my destination is Tokyo, Japan

As your layover is less than 24 hours you will only be granted the 24-hour entry permit. Immigration will want to see your hotel reservation and onward ticket receipt.
