Qing Ming festival travel impact in smaller cities/towns

We are planning a trip to China which we just realized is the same weekend as Qing Ming festival. We will be in Pingyao and Xi'an during that weekend. Is it going to be really busy to see touristy sights that weekend? Will Beijing be better?

Thanks

Since Beijing and Xi'an are hot tourism cities and Pingyao is also a hot destination, it will be crowded and it is better to avoid the time.
