Shanghai-Lhasa train, boarding in Xining

Hello,
Is it possible to get Xining-Lhasa sleeper on the Shanghai - Lhasa train? Although there is an evening train to Lhasa originating in Xining, it does not go every day.

So buy a ticket from Shanghai to Lhasa and you will get on in Xining？ It seems there is a long time difference and even different date! I think it is a little risky. And in fact it is also hard to get a ticket from Shanghai to Lhasa.
