About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

US passport holder. We're flying from USA>Toronto>Shanghai

and we want to travel to Beijing then Back to Shanghai>Toronto>USA. Do we qualify for the 144 hour twov?

Toronto > Shanghai > Toronto needs a visa and is not a transit. Also transit does not allow crossing between transit areas so fails to meet requirements on both fronts.
