About:China Visa Application in UK

Living in UK can I still get China visa b y post ?

Sent tourist visa application + passport to CAVSC Manchester but it was all returned immediately with a note saying they stopped doing postal applications in October 2018 + they have a completely new form since December 2018! It says all applications must now be made online followed by an appointment in Manchester .Very inconvenient as I live 2+h. from there! Is this info correct or can postal applications still be be submitted in the normal way ?? (Online info varies and seems quite confusing)

If so, you are supposed to make an online appointment, and then submit the application on time as usual.

Apparently it is now necessary to complete the online application in full before an appointment will be given. The new application form includes a large number of detailed questions about the applicant's past including education, work history etc, which is ridiculous for someone wanting to go to China for a couple of weeks as a tourist ! Also the passport photo must be a on a 100% white background or the online application program will reject it. Some websites are still offering to accept postal applications but they're charging a total fee (in the UK) of over £350 ! Many people won't bother going to China in future IMO when for Japan no visa whatsoever is necessary for a tourist visit.
