About:China Visa Renewal and Extension

Change tourist visa to student visa

I am going to study in Shanghai next semester, but the Admission Notice (invitation letter) never arrived at my address. The semester starts next Monday. I contacted my university, and they told me I could apply for a tourist l, and then once in China I should get a new copy of the Admission Notice and JW202 and then change to the student (X2). Is this possible? The foreign student officer was not 100% sure... But right now, it seems like I have no other options.

It would be possible to change the L type into X type at the exit and entry administration of the local PSB within China. But if possible, you are advised to apply for it in your home country.
