About:China Visa Fees

I am leaving on Feb 23 to visit a trade show in Shanghai for 3 days.

I will then fly to Hong Kong for 3 days vacation then possibly visit a business in Shenzen taking me back into China.
1. Is it true I do not need a visa for the 3 days in Shanghai as there is a 144 hour twov exemption.
2. Is there such an exemption to go into Shenzen as I would probably get there by train?
3. If not and I need a visa, can I get a letter of invitation from a Chinese firm by email and then print it out or do they need to see an original.
4. If I need an original I may not have time. Then I could apply for a tourist visa. Do I need to have a return flight to my home as I may go from Hong Kong to Australia and I do not know how long I will stay i.e. I want to book my flight back to my home while I am over there on the trip.
Thank you for your prompt response.
Gordon

To summarize, since you will be going to Shenzhen where no visa-free transit is available, you will be better off with a 10-year tourist visa. Your friend can issue an invitation letter for tourism/visit and normally you won't be asked for other documents. Be sure to specify that on the application form however.
