Is 72 hour visa OK if I my flight to NZ from Shanghai goes via Hong Kong?

I am flying into Shanghai after a 5 day trip to Hong Kong. I want to spend 2.5 days visiting Shanghai, and am flying back to New Zealand after this. But my flight out of Shanghai goes via Hong Kong (I am in Hong Kong for less than 2 hours just to get my connecting flight). Is this permitted on 72 free transit?
