About:China Visa Entries / Validity / Duration of Stay

Two/Multiple Entries for Z work visa

Hi, can I receive multiple entries or two entries with a Z work permit if I have not applied for my temporary residence permit yet? I would like to enter China 2 times. First time to drop off luggage and depart to next country for a quick holiday. The second entry, to apply for temporary residence and work in China. Is this possible?

Z types are never issued for more than one entry as it's sole purpose is for you to enter the country for 30 days and to wait for the residence permit. If you leave the country before you apply for your residence permit you may be deemed to have voluntarily abandoned your application and may have to apply for a new Z visa from scratch. As a South African you also cannot use 144-hour free transit in eligible cities (qualified nationalities often use this provision to avoid using the actual visa) so you may want to rethink on your travel plans.
