Possibility of 1 to 3 nights stopover in Shanghai

We are considering travelling Brisbane to Paris in May 2019 on China Eastern.
Will it be possible to stopover for 1 to 3 nights in Shanghai each way?
What are the visa requirements for such stopovers?

If you hold an Australian passport, then you are eligible for the 144-hour free visa transit. You need to prepare the required documents, including a passport valid for at least three months from the date of entry, a valid visa to the third country or region if required, and a ticket to the third country or region to apply for a stay permit in Shanghai Airport. You can know more details about it by searching 144-hour Visa-free Transit in Shanghai in this website.
