My daughter's US passport only has 5 months left. Is it safe to try this TWOV?

This article mentioned only 3-month validity is needed but go on to say some people are denied.

If you are worried, you are advised to contact the immigration counter in the city your daughter will transit to inquire this. Or you can check the information from the Timatic.

I called and the immigration office said as long as the passport is valid it is fine. I am posting for others to see. I called the Shanghai immigration station. They picked up the phone right away. Good service and they speak English well.
