About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Purpose of Visit

Should I write down “transit” or “tourism” on the form of 72 hour transit? I’m concerned if they see “tourism,” then they would deny it and ask me for visa if needed for tourism. Do you know any idea for purpose of visit? I will have a layover in Guangzhou and explore the city during layover.

Transit. Just be aware if stop is under 24 hours its up to agent discretion if you can leave the airport. usually isn't a problem in Guangzhou but there has been at least one report recently of 8 hour transit getting denied to leave airport. If over 24 hours they will give the 72 and allow you to leave for sure.
