Inviting friends to China

I am British and I live and work in Xi'an, China. I have all of the necessary legal requirements to work here. I have lived in China for many years. I would like to invite my friend to come and visit me in Xi'an in December. Am I correct that I dont need to book flights and reserve a hotel? I only need to supply an invitation letter, a certification letter from my employer (name and contact number, an income statement, or original copy of recent 6-month bank statement.) My friend is from Vietnam.

Your friend is not British and hence officials may require THEM to provide additional supporting documents (such as their own proof of income). You do not need to provide proof of your income but officials will need to see a copy of your residence permit and your passport's biodata page.
