Transit Beijing - Shanghai

My boss is going on a business trip in China. He will be flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing and then would like to take a flight to Shanghai. Would 72 hour twov exempt policy apply in this case? he then want to take a flight from Shanghai to Hong Kong. Thank you in advance

72 hour transit without visa has been replaced with 144 hours in Shanghai and Beijing. But you are only allowed to transit in either Beijing or Shanghai, not both. Two stops in China immediately limits you to 24 hours. Your boss either needs a visa, or has to choose between Beijing and Shanghai. Another option would be KUL-PEK-HKG-SHA-KUL which would work without a visa.
