About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Hi, I am a Canadian that is visiting Beijing for the first time.

My flight from Vancouver to Beijing has a connecting flight in Tokyo (quick 1 hour switch), then I will leave PEK back to Tokyo. So it's YVR > NRT > PEK > NRT.

Would I be able to apply for the 72 hour twov if they consider my flight from YVR to PEK?

They won't consider it YVR-PEK-NRT but NRT-PEK-NRT so that's not transit and you'll need a tourist visa.
