About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

25 hour layover

I have a 25 hour layover in Beijing en route to Thailand from Vancouver. Can I leave the airport during this time to do a sightseeing tour and stay in a hotel? I would just notify the airline prior to departure from Vancouver and then visit the free transit desk on arrival at Beijing airport, correct? I hold a passport from Ireland. Thanks in advance.

You are correct, and you are eligible for the 144h twov in Beijing. You can leave the airport during this time to do a sightseeing tour and stay in a hotel.
