inout from same airport?

Question

We are US citizens arriving at Tianjin airport from Japan (Osaka).  Taking train to Beijing.  Two days in Beijing.  Planning to leave from Beijing airport (not going back to Tianjin).  From what I read, arriving in Tianjin and leaving from Beijing is not acceptable under 72-hour twov.  This had not been my understanding previously, so now I'm confused.  Help please.  Thanks.

It would be acceptable under the 144h twov. If your travel route qualifies, you can apply for the 144h one. No visa will be needed, either.
