About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

US citizen currently in Philippines visiting Shanghai

I have a US passport and am in Philippines for 3 weeks and want to visit a friend in Shanghai for a 3 dad weekend and then return to Philippines.

What type of Visa is required?

US Passport, apply in home country and get Tourist (L) visa which will be valid for 10 years. Otherwise structure your flight so you fly country A > China > Country C. Philippines > Shanghai > Hong Kong > Philippines for example for the 144 hour transit without visa.
