About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Have there been changes to 144 hour free for New Zealand Passport holders?

I am traveling on a New Zealand passport arriving from Amsterdam staying 5 days in Shanghai then flying directly to Auckland. I live in Panama so I contacted the Chinese Embassy here just to confirm that I could take advantage of the 144-hour free transit in Shanghai and was told I would need a visa?

Amsterdam > Shanghai > New Zealand is eligible for the 144 hour transit without visa with a New Zealand Passport. No problem as long as Shanghai is the only landing in China. They likely misinformed you based on the fact those with a panama passport need a visa. Since its based off passport and not where you live, you are ok.
