If I am working for a U.S. company can I teach in China with a business visa?

I am currently planning to teach in China under the employment of a U.S. company. I do not yet have a Z yet and the company has said that I can go on a business M and transfer to z while I am there. They say that because I am working for a U.S. company and being payed in the U.S. (direct deposit to my U.S. account/ paying US taxes) a Z is not necessary and significant only in that it allows me to be in china for a longer period.
Also, it seems a little unusual that I will be being paid in the U.S. while teaching there.
Any insight will be appreciated.

Hi, in your case, I suppose you are able to teach in mainland China under a business M type. If you are still worried, you can contact the China embassy to confirm that.
