About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit FAQ

Visiting Great Wall - will only be in Beijing 48 hours

We are going from USA to Beijing then off to Tokyo.
We will be in Beijing for 48 hours to visit the Great Wall.

Do we have to get a Chinese entry permit or will we be able to get a Free Transit in the Beijing Airport if we show them all of our hotel reservations and ticket to Tokyo?

Are transit Visa's ever denied? What if we go over there without a Chinese entry permit and they won't issue us a free transit, will we be stuck in the airport?

You don't need to worry. Lots of people use free transit every day, especially at Beijing, and it's nothing special. You need to show your onward ticket to your airline when you check in for your flight to China. If your route and passport qualify then you shouldn't have a problem. But if you're worried then apply for a visa before you travel. US citizens can get 10 year visa.

As long as you don't have a history of overstaying in China should be no problem. The only real issue that is coming up recently is those going through Shanghai for under 24 hours without a hotel. just be sure to visit the 24/144 hour transit without visa desk, should be to the right of the sea of fingerprint scanning kiosks
