i have an invitation email to a lighting fair in China is this enough or do i still need to ask them for an formal invitation letter? and id copy?

I found this on the official website of China embassy for your reference: The invitation letter may be in the form of fax, photocopy or computer printout. An applicant may be required to submit an original invitation, provide other supporting documents, or schedule an interview with the consular officer.
