About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

If I have a course in Beijing that is on for a weekend, do I still need to get a visa?

My wife and I are flying into Beijing, staying for less than 72 hours but spending a good percentage of the time on a course, which is being held in Beijing... If we are flying from Taipei and back into Taipei, will we require entry permit? We are both UK citizens!

Yes, you need a visa because you are not in transit.
