About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

USA-PVG-HKG-PVG-USA vida needs

I fly from the USA and land at PVG on 6 November to visit my son at Fudon University. I will take him to HKG on 9 November for the weekend, returning on 12 November. I depart PVG on 15 November for the USA. I have one year left on my American passport, but my previous China Visa has expired. Can I use the 144 hour twov for the first part of my trip, fly to HKG, and then use a new 144 hour twov after I return from HKG to PVG?
