I have a student entry permit for HK if I want to travel around china do I need to get the multi entry vida too?

Yes, you are supposed to apply for a mainland Chinese tourist L type for the trip around China. You can submit the application to the office of the commissioner of the ministry of foreign affairs of PRC in HK SAR.
