how to welcome an exchange student from China

We are hosting a 14 year old girl from Beijing for the school year. We, Texans, are huggers. Plus, as her host mom, I want her to feel like she is part of our family. What is the best greeting? I would lean towards a hug, but I don’t want her to feel awkward. Thx!!

You can cook many delicious local food or some Chinese food and prepare a comfortable and beautiful bedroom for her. In spare time, you can organize some outdoor activities to promote the relationship. Don't worry! I believe she can feel your kindness! Hope to be helpful.

Thank you so so much! So, when I first meet her (at the airport) do I hug her or shake her hand?

Hahh, of course you can hug her and it would make her feel your kindness more easily. Shaking hands may be too normal and is suitable in some normal condition.
