About:72-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Transit with a stand-by ticket

I will be traveling from MNL to Shanghai on a one way ticket. Then will be flying on a non-rev standby ticket from Shanghai to Dallas (without a confirmed seat). Will this qualify for a free 72-hr transit if I don't leave the airport?

It does not qualify. Stand-by is not allowed for transit without visa.
