About:Chinese Embassies and Consulates

Consulate Question.

I am planning to apply for a student X in the next week or two, and I live in Las Vegas. I know Chinese Consulate assigned to Las Vegas is in San Francisco. However, I talked to consulate in Los Angeles, and they told me that as long as I came in person, it was fine for me to apply at the consulate in Los Angeles.

Should I call again and make sure before I go, or just go to the one in San Francisco?
