About:Chinese Embassy in Japan

Do I need to book my flight first before getting a visa

I'm a British passport holder living and working in Japan. My friend is getting married in Shanghai on 1st September. I intend to attend the wedding. Do I need to book a flight then get entry permit or can I get the visa then book the flight?

You need to book your flight first before getting a visa. But if you can get an invitation letter from your friend in Shanghai, you don't need to show transportation and accommodation arrangement for the application.
