Is there a way to go to Chiayi from Taipei and vice versa just using TRA?

I'm just looking for cheaper options but still less travel time. I know HSR provides the fastest way to get in CHiayi but it's too expensive. Hope you can educate me about this. Thanks!

If you take normal speed train the price is half but it will take about 4 hours to get there.
