My ex bf (Male - 11/8/94) and I (Female - 3/22/95) were together for 5 years going on 6

when he deiced to end it on my birthday due to some past issues I had with myself. We have remained in contact not daily but from time to time, and he tries to be included in my life since I have worked on bettering myself and regaining my independence, he invites me out with him, and comes over to my place, and his family continues to remain in contact with me. We talked and he says he wants to take things slow, but he does not know whether he wants to get back in it or not but the way things have been going I feel that we could get back together. Is there a chance for us and will we work?
