Record of citizen at birth forfeit Chinese citizenship?

My wife is Chinese, I’m American. If our child is born in China, are they a citizen? If we apply for record of a citizen born abroad in America does our child lose Chinese citizenship?

Yes, your baby has Chinese citizenship because he was born in China and his mother is a Chinese citizen. But if you apply for record of a citizen born abroad in America, your baby will automatically lose his Chinese citizenship. China does not recognize dual nationality.
