American citizen, Q2, enter before 2028

I‘m a Chinese born American citizen currently in China with a q2 visa about to expire for my 120 day stay duration. I checked with the Chinese entry/exit services department and they said I can exit China to hong kong and reenter to renew my 120 day duration, is this true?

If your Q2 is a double or multiple entry visa, yes, this is true.
