About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Worried

Hello, I read somewhere that, since february 2018 with the 24 hour TWOV you are not allowed to leave the airport...is this true? has someone travelled recently?

Which airport do you mean?
How long is your transit time in China?

Whether you can leave the airport is always up to the immigration officer in charge, and in February this year an American reported that in Shanghai Pudong, he was asked for a hotel reservation because, the officer told him, it was the "latest" policy. He did not have one and was not allowed to enter. IIRC there may have been other reports when people were flatly rejected by immigration or were told that they must be switching terminals or airports in order to be admitted in Pudong. Again, there were never any official announcements so you can try your luck if you want to.

Kind of wierd in shenghai lately...seems the best way to avoid problems is to make a hotel reservation...otherwise they are telling people to pound sand an live in the terminal...
