About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

IRL - UK - SHangahi

Hello,
Can I fly Dublin to London to Shanghai and the same route round trip within the 144 hour window?
Or do I have to have a different transit destination e.g. Frankfurt, Abu Dhabi etc on the return leg for the transit visa to be valid ?
Thank you.

London-China-London isn't a transit so it's not eligible for visa-free transit. You must fly Country A-China-Country B.

Thanks for your help so just to check, Outbound: Ireland to UK to Shanghai & Inbound: Shanghai to Germany to Ireland is OK for transit visa.
But Outbound Ireland to UK to Shanghai & inbound Shanghai to UK to Ireland is not OK and requires entry permit
Thanks for clarifying
