You cannot apply for Chinese transit G type at the airport in Shanghai. You should make the application from the CVASC in your country before your trip. But if you refer to the free transit policy in Shanghai, you need to get your passport valid for at least 3 months from the date of entry, onward ticket with confirmed seat, a fully completed arrival/departure card ready to apply for it at the airport.
