About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Free travel visa

I am flying into Shanghai to go on a cruise. I will be in Shanghai for 3 days to tour before the ship leaves on an 8 day voyage. When the ship returns to Shanghai, I will go straight to the airport. Does this 144 h free transit cover me during this time? Thank you.

Yes, you will be. As long as you are arriving in Shanghai and departing to a country other than where you came from.

I have just travelled from the Uk to Shanghai (stayed one night) then took a cruise to Japan. Returned to Shanghai for 4 days, then back to the Uk.

I needed to apply for 2 separate transit visas. First one on arrival in Shanghai from the UK and the second when disembarking the cruise from Japan in Shanghai.

The application is very straightforward. Name. DOB, Passport number. Flight no. and address in Shanghai. You will require to show the a hard copy of your flight details (arrival and departure) and accommodation details.

I hope this answers your question?
