About:24-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Missed flight

Hello, I am a Canadian transiting in Shanghai to Bali. I have a 24 hour free transit. I missed my connecting flight, and the next available flight is in 48 hours. What is the procedure?

Stefanie, you can try to apply for the 144 hr free transit at Shanghai airport if your total layover time in there is within 144 hours. You can go to the transit counter to inquire the details.

Hi Finn, here’s an update on the case. I explained the situation to the immigration attendant and was told that the 24 hour free transit cannot be changed. That it is the law that I must leave the country. No options were given to extend, reapply or buy a visa. It is very hard to get help. I ended up finding an earlier flight with Air Canada.
