Shall I have transit visa?

Hi
We are flying to Nepal Kathmandu in Cathay Pacific with family. We have already booked returned air tickets. We will broad in West Jet plane from Edmonton Alberta. We will fly from YEG Edmonton to YVR Vancouver via HKG Hongkong to KTM Kathmandu in the Cathay Pacific airlines. We are just going to use HKG airport as a transit. So far our status is concerned, we are permanent resident to Canada. We want to be sure whether we should obtain transit visa for HKG or not. Would you mind to suggest us how we supposed to do. In the 2014 I traveled through YEG to YVR to HKG to KTM back and forth. In the flight I did not require to obtain transit entry permit for HKG. I heard of rumor regarding requirement transit entry permit for Nepali pass port holder to use HKG as a transit. Please let us know ASAP. Your response is highly appreciated. Thank you. According to HK immigration's website, you must have a visa for airside transit, otherwise boarding will be refused. Your Canadian permanent residency will not make a difference. A HK visa takes a minimum of four weeks to process (even longer if the application is sent via the Chinese consulate) so you should plan accordingly.
