Based on what I know, a bachelor degree is needed when you apply for the work permit which is a necessary document for work Z type.

So there is no way around getting a work permit and a Working Z Visa respectively if one does not have a Bachelor's Degree?

I am currently in my final year of my undergraduate studies in South Africa and I want to start working in China from the beginning of next year (January) but my graduation is only in April of next year which is when I'd get my degree certificate. This is very inconvenient because I would technically have completed my degree; I just wouldn't have my actual certificate. Is there nothing I can do about this?

According to new work permit policy for process working Z must need university degree, so you are advised to make the application after you get the degree certificate.
