Hi, Frankie! I think 2 days needs to be spent in Dunhuang and 2 days in Urumqi.
Here is the itinerary:
Day 1: Ancient Dunhuang Town, Thousand-Buddha Cave, Yumen Pass, Han Great Wall, and Demon Castle in Yadan.
Day 2: Mingshan Mountain and Mogao Caves. Take a night train to Liuyuan at 19:18 and transfer to a train to Urumqi.
Day 3: Heavenly Lake
Day 4: Tianshan Canyon.
