About:China Visa Exemption

China Layover

Hello,
I will be traveling from Phuket to China with a 9hour layover in Shanghai before I return to New York. I have a US passport. Will I need a visa to be able to Leave the airport and go into Shanghai?

You need a hotel reservation first, and even that can't guarantee entry which is up to the immigration officer.
