About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Holiday from australia

Hi, if we are just holidaying from Australia and 1st fly to Shanghai and stay there for 4 days and then fly to Hong Kong for 4 days then back to Australia......does this qualify for the 144 hour? Many thanks

Yes, as long as your flight to Shanghai doesn't stop in Hong Kong (or China).

Australia-Hong Kong-Shanghai-Hong Kong-Australia does not qualify for 144 hours transit without visa, because Hong Kong-Shanghai-Hong Kong is not a transit. It's irrelevant whether you pass immigration or leave the airport or even leave the aircraft in Hong Kong. Your route doesn't qualify so you need a visa or different flights.
