About:144-Hour Visa-Free Transit

pre cruise stay

I am a UK passport holder living in Dubai.
I am flying from Dubai to Shanghai (layover in Hong Kong for 1.5 hours)
I am staying in Shanghai for 3 days before going on a 5 day cruise to Japan. I then return to Shanghai and then fly immediately to Hong Kong.
What sort of visa do i need as this is over 144 hours and two entries required?

It's not a problem. The 144 hours resets every time you enter China.

Thanks for the reply Rob, much appreciated.
Do i need to do anything in advance for this or will i just get the stamp in my passport on arrival?

Print out copies of your airline tickets and highlight the relevant onward flights. You'll need them for check-in, boarding and arrival. A printed copy of your hotel reservation can also be useful.

Final question Rob (promise).
The cruise leaves Shanghai and returns to Shanghai 5 days later, will that still be ok for the 144 as i am effectively leaving the country?

As long as your travel route is country a-Shanghai-country b, you can enjoy visa-free transit in Shanghai. There is no limit on how many times you can apply for it.
