Print out copies of your airline tickets and highlight the relevant onward flights. You'll need them for check-in, boarding and arrival. A printed copy of your hotel reservation can also be useful.

Final question Rob (promise).The cruise leaves Shanghai and returns to Shanghai 5 days later, will that still be ok for the 144 as i am effectively leaving the country?

As long as your travel route is country a-Shanghai-country b, you can enjoy visa-free transit in Shanghai. There is no limit on how many times you can apply for it.
