travel in Yunnan near Dali or other?

I am interested in staying somewhere peaceful in the countryside. We will travel from Kunming. How would we get to see the YuanYang Rice Terraces and how far is that from Kunming? Is there somewhere peaceful for two Americans to stay in that area? We are considering staying at the Linden Centre near Dali but I wonder if there are sights closer to Kunming that we might enjoy a lot also. We especially enjoy nature such as rivers or mountains, or the countryside life. Also would the rice terraces have water in them around April 11-16 time? Thank you.

It’s around 310km south to Kunming city, and you can take a bus from South Bus Station to Yuanyang Xinjie and then catch a taxi to the scenic area. There is water in the rice terraces at the at that time.
As for other places, Linden Center is good. Besides, Stone Forest, the Long Lake and Dadieshui Waterfall near Kunming are recommended!
