is it possible to go from chengde directly to datong?

I am hoping to travel Beijing -> Chengde -> Datong. Is there a way of connecting the last two directly without returning to Beijing? Thanks

There is not direct transfer from Chengde to Datong. You need to go back to Beijing first. Then take the train from Beijing Railway Station to Datong Railway Station. It takes around 6.5 hours on the way.
