Do we qualify to use the 144 hour visa free transit

We arrive int Shanghai Pudong Airport on 5 July from Melbourne. We then depart on a cruise from Shanghai to Japan on 7 July and returning on 14 July. We then planned to take the Bullet train to Beijiing for a couple of days before going back to Shanghai to fly to Melbourne on the 18 July.
