Which way I can stay in China long-term?

I'm going to move and live with my boyfriend in Shanghai. Beside from that, I'm also planning to find and to be a model as a career. I am an american citizen with U.S. passport. My biggest problem now is the visas. I also hope I can get a perminant residence permit. I'm so confused and frustrated of which way I can stay in China long-term in my situation.
Please help!
Thank you.

The only legal way is to get a work visa but that requires a company to sponsor you.
