About:240-Hour Visa-Free Transit

Traveling = SFO(US) —> Pek(Beijing) —> HKG(Hong Kong) —> SFO (US).

I understand the first 3 parts should be ok. But when I travel back home SFO will that cause an issue as the 4th flight? Should I just book SFO—>PEK—>HKG only? Then purchase the SFO trip later?

SFO-PEK-HKG is fine. The last leg won't make a difference to Chinese immigration, since Hong Kong is a separate jurisdiction and US citizens can stay without a visa for 90 days.
