About:China Visa Renewal and Extension

I'm the spouse of a diplomat in China with a job offer. Must I leave the country to get a work visa?

You can try to convert your current visa to the work Z type at the exit and entry administration of the local OPSB. If it can be done, there is no need to leave the country.
